The Famous Climb
Today is the day that the Class of 2009 will do it’s Herndon Climb. A rite of passage for all, it marks the end of Plebe Year for the 4th Class Midshipmen. If you’re not familiar with the Herndon Moment, it is a 21-foot tall gray granite obelisk, located on the U.S. Naval Academy. It was erected in the memory of Captain William Lewis Herndon, who bravely decided to go down with his ship, the SS Central America, on September 12, 1857.
